ALTRE NOTIZIE: nell’agosto 1982, nella sola zona di Tupelo, Mississippi, venne pubblicato il 45 giri “The impossible dream/An American trilogy” (RCA JH-13302) in occasione del sesto anniversario della scomparsa di Elvis. La performance di “The impossible dream” è quella del 16 febbraio 1972 a Las Vegas, Nevada, midnight show, edita su 33 giri nel 1978 in “He walks beside me”.
Nella sua prima versione datata 28 gennaio 1971, Las Vegas, Elvis la canta con il testo originale. La differenza sta solo nel secondo verso che invece di essere così:
“Oh, to right the unrightable wrong. To be better far than you are. To try when your arms are too weary. To reach the unreachable star”...
Elvis canta così:
“Oh, to right the unrightable wrong. To love pure and chaste from afar. To try when your arms are too weary. To reach the unreachable star”.
La parte sottolineata è l’unica diversa dal teso riportato in precedenza (Madison Square Garden, 10 giugno 1972) e significa “amare da lontano, con purezza e castità”.
Da segnalare, infine, che in parecchi spettacoli dell’inizio del 1971 Elvis chiudeva il concerto con questa canzone.

STORIA DELLA CANZONE:
“The impossible dream” venne scritta da Joe Darion e da Mitch Leigh per il musical del 1965 “The man of La Mancha” col titolo "The quest".
L’anno seguente Jack Jones raggiunse il primo posto della classifica Easy Listening con una sua versione di questa canzone.
Anche Roy Hamilton (1966), Roger Williams (1968) e gli Hesitations (1968) registrarono “The impossible dream”.

Una delle interpretazioni più stupende dell'Elvis che preferisco, ovvero il grandioso interprete di canzoni favolose e di portata internazionale !!

La versione migliore in assoluto per me è proprio quella del Madison Square Garden, a mio modestissimo parere una delle interpretazioni di Elvis più belle in assoluto di tutta la sua intera carriera live !!!!
Al MSG, un Elvis assolutamente in palla raggiunse con codesta song, tonalità liriche perfettamente in tema con un pezzo che sembra stato scritto apposta per un Placido Domingo o un Big Lucianone Pavarotti (scusate se esagero.. ma la versione stupendamente riarrangiata con l'orchestra di Joe Guercio, mi fa pensare ad una grande veste per "The Quest").

Qualche anno fa anche il violinista olandese André Rieu riprese "The Impossible dream" con la sua orchestra, dal vivo, arrangiandola proprio secondo questa specifica versione dell'Elvis MSG. André Rieu oltre ad amare i classici compositori di musica classica, adora Elvis e lo cita spesso persino nelle pagine del suo sito ufficiale olandese, come un grande esempio assieme a Freddie Mercury, di come un cantante di musica così detta leggera possa anche diventare un grande interprete di musica in generale, considerando anche la classica e la lirica.. il punto di incontro fra stili apparentemente diversissimi. E "The Impossible Dream" by Elvis ne è una delle prove più lampanti assieme ad altri pezzi come "What now my love" e "Let it be me".
